Spirit Week-
Sprit Week takes place in December. The goal for the entire school is to reach 100,000 spirit points that can be earned through various activities. Students can raise points by dressing up for theme days, creating bulletins boards to decorate the school, designing book marks, slogans, and t-shirts, and bringing in various items to support a local charity. The purpose behind the spirit week is for the entire school to work together to make our school and community a better place through sharing, caring, and giving.

IALAC-
I. A. L. A. C. is an acronym created by Dr. Sidney B. Simon a retired professor of Education from the University of Massachusetts.  Originally, IALAC stood for “I am loving and capable”.  At Haines, students can replace the word capable with other words like, “caring”.  Throughout IALAC week, Haines students recognize the good works of others and demonstrate acts of kindness.  They also post good acts on IALAC boards and wear IALAC necklaces to signify their IALAC behavior.  IALAC encourages students to be: caring, courteous, considerate, and many more words that can be used to describe good character.

Camarena, Red Ribbon Week encourages students to live drug free lifestyles.  Throughout the week, students participate in various activities like: pledge signing, poster making, dress up days, and trivia. http://www.usdoj.gov/dea/ongoing/red_ribbon/redribbon_history.html

Feathers For Food-
Feathers for Food is an activity that takes place in November to help raise money to support a local food shelter. During lunches, students will have an opportunity to purchase feathers for $0.50 each. Each feather is then placed in a box that is for a team of teachers. At the end of the fund raiser, the team of teachers that has the most feathers in their box will have to dance to the “turkey dance” in front of the school during an assembly. All of the money that is collected during that week will be used to purchase turkeys for the local food shelter.
